Chapter 4 Rejecting the Invitation
Chapter 4 Rejecting the Invitation
Lu Chen stared at Mike for several moments, then looked at Gabriel lying on the ground. His meaning was clear: they were short-handed. But he had an innate aversion to hiring mercenaries; he didn't want to join them, didn't want to become a killing machine.
Besides, Zhang Lu and those security guards had just been killed, and Mike had remained unmoved. He found this cold-bloodedness utterly despicable. He shook his head and said, "I don't care about making big money. I just want my commission, and by the way, give me Zhang Lu's commission too. I'll give it to his parents when I get back to China."
We're all Chinese, so let's help each other out if we can.
Mike tossed a can of beef to Lu Chen and said with a smile, "You're pretty good. You're loyal and have the makings of a mercenary. We need you."
At this moment, James, Anthony, and Alex also sat down around, eating their food while looking at Lu Chen as if he were a work of art.
Lu Chen shook his head and said, "Don't even think about it. I won't join the mercenary group. I'll go back to China after I get my salary." After he finished speaking, he opened the can of food, took out his military knife, and started eating.
"Hey kid, don't rush to refuse. The boss is very nice. Every time you complete a mission, the commission is split equally. After a few missions, I guarantee you'll become a small millionaire," said Anthony, the beautiful sniper, as she approached with a smile.
She admired this Chinese man. He was 1.8 meters tall, strong, calm, and experienced—the kind of man she liked.
James was a rough and straightforward man. He slammed his hand on the wooden board with a loud crack, almost sending the board flying. He shouted, "If Gabriel hadn't died, you wouldn't have had a chance. With your small frame, I could have knocked you down with one punch."
Lu Chen gave James a cold look. The man was indeed very strong, nearly two meters tall. If he carried weapons and ammunition, he would be a mobile arsenal. But in terms of skills, Lu Chen had absolute confidence.
He snorted coldly, stood up, and said loudly, "The matter has been made clear. I'm going back to the company." After saying that, he turned and walked out.
Mike smiled. He liked people like Lu Kang. They were calm and experienced, like a viper. It was hard for them to change their minds easily, but once they made up their minds, nothing could change them.
James wouldn't stand for it. He shouted, "You brat, you're asking for it!" He then stood up abruptly, his fist, as big as a bowl, whistling through the air, and slammed towards Lu Chen.
Lu Chen felt a gust of wind behind him and instinctively ducked to dodge James's punch. At the same time, he kicked James with a back kick.
With a muffled groan, James was kicked in the chest by Lu Chen, feeling a powerful force, and staggered back several steps.
Lu Chen didn't turn around, and said loudly, "Next time it won't be so simple." After he finished speaking, he strode out.
James was unconvinced and wanted to rush forward, but Mike grabbed him, shook his head, and said, "You can't beat him. All of us combined can't beat him. He has to belong to us werewolves."
Lu Chen had already walked out of the courtyard gate and hadn't heard Mike's words. He checked his direction and was about to walk forward, but when he saw the pickup truck at the gate, he smiled.
He started the pickup truck, slammed on the gas, and the truck roared like a wild beast as it sped forward.
By the time Mike and the others rushed out, the pickup truck had already driven away. James punched the wall with both fists and shouted, "Boss, I'm going to beat him up!"
"This kid's interesting, I'm liking him more and more," said the beautiful sniper Anthony with a smile.
Mike waved at them and said, "That kid should be heading back to the company. Oh no, there's danger. Rest is over, let's go."
At that moment, Alex drove up in a Hummer. With a sudden stop, Mike and the others quickly got into the car, and the Hummer chased after Lu Chen.
At this moment, Lu Chen was driving his pickup truck at breakneck speed. He was nearly fifty miles away when gunshots came from ahead. Lu Chen frowned slightly. What was going on? Was there a battle ahead?
As he got closer, he became certain that the gunshots came from Gangdi Town. He parked his pickup truck at the village entrance, grabbed an AK47 assault rifle from the vehicle, and rushed into the town.
The gunshots grew closer, and there wasn't a single pedestrian on the road. It was already afternoon, the sun was setting, and the light was dim.
He ran quickly along the only main road in the town. Ahead was the headquarters of Jinghua Security Company. Suddenly, an explosion was heard. The security company's gate was blown open with a loud bang, and Lu Chen instinctively fell to the ground.
When he looked up, he saw the bearded man from before leading dozens of armed men, carrying assault rifles, rushing in.
These militants were well-equipped, and their movements and demeanor clearly indicated that they had received professional training. In contrast, the security guards from the security company were only equipped with AK47 assault rifles and had virtually no combat skills. The security guards were no match for the militants at all.
As the militants stormed in, gunfire erupted in the courtyard, accompanied by screams of agony.
Lu Chen was completely stunned. They actually found this place. What did they want to do? Was it just simple revenge?
At this moment, they kill anyone they see without any mercy; they are simply killing machines.
Although most of these people were locals, they had lived together for more than half a year and had developed some feelings for each other. Lu Chen couldn't bear to see them killed.
He shouted and rushed out with his assault rifle in hand. He was very fast and rushed into the yard in the blink of an eye, quickly analyzing the situation.
Several armed men had already stormed into the security building, while others were firing at the second floor. Lu Chen didn't have time to think; he quickly aimed and pulled the trigger repeatedly. Bang bang bang gunshots rang out, and three armed men were killed before they could even react.
Seeing this, the other militants all turned their guns and opened fire on Lu Chen.
Bang bang bang! Countless bullets whistled through the air. Lu Chen ran quickly, leaving the bullets behind. He lunged forward, rolling on the ground before taking cover in a corner of the house.
At least eight armed men were closing in on Lu Kang. His palms were sweating and he was extremely nervous. He was surrounded, and if he showed his face, he would be riddled with bullets.
The screams from inside the building continued, like bayonets stabbing his heart again and again.
"Damn it, those bastards." Lu Chen cursed inwardly. He was powerless to do anything about it. If only he had comrades with him, someone to help him draw fire.
He thought of Mike, and of the werewolf mercenary group. He shook his head vigorously. What's wrong with me? Why am I thinking about them?
As the footsteps drew closer, less than ten meters away, Lu Chen gritted his teeth. He couldn't just sit and wait to die; he had to fight them.
After he finished speaking, he grabbed his assault rifle, rolled to the ground, and repeatedly pulled the trigger, constantly turning the muzzle. The two armed men in front of him were killed and fell to the ground.
Lu Chen dared not stop. He stood up abruptly and ran wildly among the group, using evasive maneuvers.
