Chapter 1149: Deadlock
Chapter 1149: Deadlock
Song Zhiqing felt that Bai Shuilian’s state was a bit off. Ever since they started their journey and even after the vegetarian meal, she seemed restless and a bit strange."If you feel uncomfortable, why don’t we head back to the mansion?"
Bai Shuilian quickly shook her head and said, "We’ve just had our meal. You should rest for a while. It’s rare to come out, and I want to explore the temple. Who knows when we’ll come again."
Song Zhiqing said, "Do you need my company then?"
"No need. You’ve been accompanying me since morning and must be tired. Take a rest; the Zen Temple here seems peaceful to me."
Song Zhiqing indeed felt a bit sleepy and didn’t want to move, so he said, "Then don’t go far. Make sure to have Grandma Quan and Hai Yan with you. Don’t be alone."
Bai Shuilian nodded with a smile, helped him lie down, and then left the room.
Before stepping out, she paused, looked back, noticing him lying sideways with his back to her, not acknowledging her presence at all.
Bai Shuilian’s eyes darkened as she closed the door and left.
The East Guest Courtyard, located in a secluded place connected to the back mountain, was already prepared and deserted.
Bai Shuilian sat inside, her expression uncertain, pressing her hand against her heart where it pounded chaotically.
She felt uneasy, as if she had walked into a dead end with no way to survive.
Hai Yan entered with a teapot, mentioning that it started to snow again outside.
Bai Shuilian listened absentmindedly and took the tea Hai Yan handed over and sipped it, asking, "Where’s Grandma Quan?"
"Grandma Quan said she had to fetch someone," Hai Yan replied.
Heart skipping a beat, Bai Shuilian said, "Alright, you go out then. You can stroll outside but don’t go far."
Hai Yan curled her lips, answered affirmatively, and headed toward the door.
Suddenly everything seemed dim before Bai Shuilian’s eyes; Hai Yan appeared taller than usual, blocking the light from the door, as an unfamiliar voice echoed.
"In the world, things never go the way you want. Don’t blame me."
Bai Shuilian’s pupils dilated. What did this mean?
This voice...
Oh no.
Bai Shuilian’s face changed drastically, jumping to her feet with her body swaying uncontrollably, one hand bracing the table, the other supporting her dizzy head, shaking it.
The door slowly closed; everything blurred before her eyes.
"No."
Stumbling forward, Bai Shuilian knocked over the tea on the table, her legs gave way, and she fell to the floor.
Soft shuffling sounds came from overhead; raising her head, Bai Shuilian saw tiles falling, along with dust covering her head and face.
Screaming inwardly, Bai Shuilian wished someone could save her.
She was terrified.
All the riches, daughters, and missions meant nothing compared to her mortality.
All she wanted was to live.
So, whoever it may be, save her.
With a loud rumble, the house shook violently, sounding like drums.
Bang, some things crashed down.
Bai Shuilian watched helplessly, revealing a wretched smile.
She was so resentful.
Her consciousness waned, as if her body was flying, light as a swallow, in the clouds, or carried swiftly by someone.
Bai Shuilian tried hard to open her eyes, but darkness consumed her whole.
Not far from the mountain’s edge, Hai Yan watched the collapsed guest courtyard, smirked, and hurried toward the Zen Temple.
The thunderous explosion scared everyone, their screams rising.
Song Zhiqing awoke from his sleep, clutching his chest in a daze, terrified, dreaming that the earth shook, burying Bai Shuilian in the ruins.
Fortunately, it was just a dream.
Song Zhiqing wiped tears from his forehead, not relieved yet, as he saw Hai Yan rush in, panic-stricken, screaming, "Master, the guest courtyard where Aunt resides, has collapsed."
Song Zhiqing: "???"
