Mercenaries are King

Chapter 30 Suspicious Checkpoint

Chapter 30 Suspicious Checkpoint

Upon hearing Lu Chen's shout, Mike slammed on the brakes. The Hummer roared to a stop, nearly causing the pickup truck behind it to crash into it.

James yelled into his headset, "Boss, what's going on? Could you have given me advance notice?"

Mike glanced ahead and said into his headset, "Quiet, something's up."

He then looked at Lu Chen and said very seriously, "Chen, are you sure? Or are you going by gut feeling? If we take a detour, it will take an extra hour."

Lu Chen shrugged helplessly and said, "It's based on gut feeling, but if we get into their firing range, do you think we can escape?"

He paused for a moment and continued, "So we must prepare for the worst."

"It's just a feeling, no, no, Lu Chen, we can't do it like this, we need evidence." This time, Mike disagreed with him and shook his head.

At that moment, James walked up from behind, banged on the car window, and shouted, "Boss, what's going on?"

Mike glared at James and said rudely, "They might be Rahman's men. Go back to the car and wait for orders."

James glanced ahead and replied, "Yes, boss." Then he got back into the car behind.

Although Mike didn't quite believe Lu Chen's words, he still cautiously said, "Chen, what do you suggest we do?"

Lu Chen turned to look at Adile and said with a serious expression, "Take a detour. Even if we arrive a little later, it's better than going to our deaths."

He paused for a moment and continued, "And this is just their mobile outpost. Once they open fire, there will definitely be other armed men, who might be the rebels Adile mentioned."

Adile sneered and said, "Rebels, huh? I'd really like to see who they are. Don't take the detour, just go this way."

Lu Chen and Mike were both quite surprised, and they turned around to look at Adile almost simultaneously.

The two men almost thought the same thing: Was this woman going to her death? If she was going to her death, she shouldn't have taken the werewolf mercenary group with her.

Mike shrugged helplessly and winked at the person behind him, as if to say, "It's up to you now."

Lu Chen reached behind him and placed his large hand on Adile's forehead. He touched his own forehead with his other hand and shook his head, saying, "You don't have a fever. Why are you talking nonsense? Adile, even if you know who the traitor is, you'll still die whether you get through this or not. What's the point of knowing who the traitor is when you're already dead?"

He paused for a moment and continued, "Moreover, our goal is to protect your father and find the traitor. What will happen to your father if we die?"

"Yeah, Adile, what will happen to your father if we die?" Mike chimed in. He didn't actually agree with Lu Chen's words, but he spoke up for him to maintain the overall image of the werewolf mercenary group.

Lu Chen gave a thumbs up and said, "Boss, you're absolutely right. Let's do it this way, take a detour." After Lu Chen finished speaking, he turned around and looked at Adile.

Adile stared wide-eyed ahead, pointing and saying, "Look, they're coming!"

Lu Chen was very surprised and quickly turned around. Through the car window, he saw more than a dozen armed men getting into the car. They must have already discovered Lu Chen and his group.

Damn, the distance is only about a kilometer. If they accelerate and rush over, it will be over in the blink of an eye.

He grabbed Mike's arm and shouted, "Quick, run! Pickup, wait for me!" Then he pushed open the car door and jumped out.

He wasn't going to fight them head-on. Instead, he took out two grenades and quickly set up booby traps. He was very fast; the booby traps were in place in less than a minute.

He turned and ran, and sure enough, the pickup truck was waiting for him. He rushed over and jumped into the truck bed, where he could face the charging militants.

There was a rocket launcher on the vehicle. He quickly steadied himself, loaded the rocket launcher, and carried it on his shoulder.

He stared wide-eyed ahead as four trucks rapidly closed the distance to the booby traps they were about to hit.

Two loud explosions rang out in quick succession, sending two pickup trucks flying. The people inside screamed in agony. The remaining two vehicles did not stop and charged forward.

A ruthless glint flashed in Lu Chen's eyes. As the distance closed, he pulled the trigger without hesitation. The rocket, trailing flames, flew with a whoosh towards a pickup truck.

With a loud bang, the rocket hit the pickup truck, sending it flying. Another vehicle was thrown about by the huge shockwave from the explosion, spinning around like a leaf in the wind.

At this moment, Alex entered the carriage, picked up a submachine gun, and opened fire without hesitation. Bang bang bang, a series of gunshots rang out, and the militants who tried to stand up were once again knocked down.

They kept the distance until they disappeared from the firing range.

Lu Chen sat in the car, patted Alex on the shoulder, and said with a smile, "Well done."

"Shen, you've helped us again," Alex said.

"It's not that I'm attacking you, it's that I'm helping us," Lu Chen said with a smile.

At that moment, a voice came through the earpiece: "Lu Chen, are you alright? You bastard, how could you run away by yourself?" It was Adila's voice, a voice she both loved and hated.

Her voice had just stopped when the pickup truck braked suddenly. Lu Chen looked up in surprise and saw that the Hummer had stopped, and Adile was waving at him from the door.

Alex patted Lu Chen on the shoulder and said, "Go on, hurry up."

Lu Chen gave a wry smile, jumped out of the pickup truck, and ran over. Just as he reached the door, Adile pulled him into the back seat.

Adile punched Lu Chen hard a few times, then shouted in a sweet voice, "Don't do anything stupid again."

While driving, Mike said, "Hey, listen to Adile from now on. Don't do anything stupid. Tell us in advance what you want to do, and don't act on your own."

"Damn it, are you kicking me when I'm down? Here's what I suggest: turn the car around and go back the way we came," Lu Chen said, both amused and annoyed, but with a happy smile on his face.

Mike looked surprised, turned to look at Lu Chen, and said with some doubt, "You said you're going back? Aren't you afraid of their main force?"

Lu Chen shook his head and said, "Boss, I've been thinking. There are people waiting for us on the main road, so are there no people on the other road? We know there are two roads, so don't they know that too? Therefore, it doesn't matter which road we take, the result will be the same."

Mike slammed on the brakes, bringing the Hummer to a stop. Lu Chen nearly fell off his seat. He was speechless; were those words really that damaging?

Mike turned to look at Lu Chen, his face dark, and said, "Lu Chen, you mean all the roads are blocked? What are we supposed to do then?"

"I think we should go back to Gangdi Town and wait until their defenses are a bit lax before coming over," Lu Chen said without hesitation. He hadn't really thought it through; he was just saying it offhand.

Adile grabbed Lu Chen's arm and said loudly, "We can't go back. You have to think of a way."
