Chapter 31 Rescue
Chapter 31 Rescue
Vorov's intelligence officer rushed in, not even bothering to straighten his uniform, and saluted with sweat pouring down his face.
"Colonel! Urgent military situation!" the intelligence officer reported loudly.
"What's the panic! Can't you see I'm discussing military secrets with Commander Yuri?!" Vorov roared in dissatisfaction.
Vorov glanced at the composed Yuri and gestured for the intelligence officer to continue.
"Colonel! A series of explosions have occurred inside the chemical plant. There are unusual movements in the Ukrainian defenses, and a mechanized infantry company is urgently reinforcing the rear!"
"What did you say?" Wolf's fat face trembled, and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"A chemical plant? Reinforcements? What the hell is going on? I haven't arranged any military operations there at all!"
Yuri sat in the chair, slowly put the cigar back into his mouth, and took a deep drag.
He looked at Vorov through the swirling smoke, then suddenly burst into laughter: "Hahaha... Interesting. Vorov, that foreign kid, seems to have done something quite remarkable!"
"This is impossible!" Vorov stared at Yuri. "That Chinese guy? The chemical plant is surrounded by anti-personnel mines and tripwires. How did he get in?!"
Yuri stubbed out his cigar and smiled. "He not only got in, he made a scene. Vorov, he even got the intelligence."
"So what if I got the intelligence? I've already done what I promised him!" Vorov paced back and forth in frustration. "The Ukrainian mechanized infantry company has surrounded him; he can't possibly come out alive."
"But it would be best if I could bring back intelligence alive; that would be a much bigger gain for me!"
"Indeed, it's just that you look bad!"
Yuri stood up and placed his hands on the sand table: "Let's continue our discussion about the business in Kalinovka."
"We can continue talking, but taking fifty percent of the spoils is definitely not an option!"
"I mobilized two entire companies! I not only have to be responsible for the subsequent ammunition consumption and the compensation for the wounded, but I also have to smooth things over with my superiors to cover up this unauthorized operation!"
"You only have a few people, and you'll be leaving in ten minutes. Why should you take half? Thirty percent is already my bottom line!"
"Don't compare your cheap cannon fodder to my elites!" Yuri's eyes instantly turned cold.
"Without my men to take out those heavy firepower points, even if you send in your two companies, they won't make a dent! Forty-five percent, not a penny less, you'll have to do the job yourself."
"You're extorting me, Yuri!" Vorov gritted his teeth, veins throbbing on his forehead.
Although he knew Yuri was telling the truth, the enormous benefits made him unwilling to give in so easily.
"Thirty-five percent! That's the highest it can go! You have to understand, that's hundreds of NLAWs!"
"Alright, Wolf." Yuri suddenly waved his hand, interrupting Wolf's roar.
He stubbed out his half-burnt cigar in the ashtray, stood up, and said, slowly and deliberately, "I can compromise. I only want forty percent of the spoils from Kalinovka."
Wolf was stunned: "You're actually giving up five percent of your profits? What conditions do you want attached?"
"The conditions are simple." Yuri pointed in the direction of the chemical plant. "Lu Ye. When he comes back alive, cancel his file in the cannon fodder camp. He belongs to the Undertaker. This five percent profit is his money to buy his life."
The command center fell silent.
Wolf stared at Yuri for a full five seconds before bursting into unrestrained, maniacal laughter.
"Hahahaha! Yuri, Yuri! You really are a complete madman!"
"You're trading hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of weapons for a piece of cannon fodder destined to die in a chemical plant?"
"That's none of your business, Colonel. Will you take the deal or not?" Yuri remained unmoved.
Wolf's smile vanished. He rubbed his fat hands together, his eyes gleaming with greed: "Choose! Why wouldn't you?"
"Why would I take profits that are given away for free? But I bet he'll never come back."
"Colonel, never underestimate a desperate man on the battlefield." Yuri glanced at him coldly, then turned and walked toward the door of the command room.
He stopped when his hand touched the doorknob.
"You think he won't come back? What if I personally lead a team to meet him?"
Before he could finish speaking, Yuri pushed open the door and stepped into the darkness.
Without lingering for a moment, Yuri left the command post and went straight to the Black Scythe Squad's independent tent.
Pushing open the wooden door, the five men inside the tent instantly stood up and picked up their weapons.
"Get to work." Yuri walked to the weapons rack and put on his tactical body armor.
Sniper Artyom was wiping his SVD sniper rifle: "Boss, is it settled? But there should still be three days before Operation Kalinovka."
"The plan has changed. Go to the chemical plant and pick up Lu Ye." Yuri picked up his rifle.
Roman, the adjutant and medic, pushed up his glasses: "A chemical plant? The monitoring channel says Ukrainian reinforcements are coming. Are we going to get involved in this mess for a foreign mercenary?"
"He single-handedly lured out the Ukrainian mechanized company, which means he obtained the intelligence." Yuri looked at Roman. "I just traded him for five percent of the profit. Take the equipment and bring him back."
Heavy gunner Ruslan slung a machine gun ammunition belt over his shoulder: "What if he dies?"
"Then bring back his body and the intelligence. That's an order! Ruslan." Yuri gave the order.
"Eugene, are the drones ready?"
Sentinel and communications officer Eugene typed: "Ready to go, boss. Surrounding microwave frequencies are blocked. We can depart."
Yuri turned to Artyom: "Take your sniper rifle. Artyom, your night shooting accuracy isn't great, just provide suppressive fire."
Artyom pursed his lips and slung the SVD sniper rifle over his shoulder.
"Everyone, equipment check!" Yuri growled in a deep voice.
For a moment, only the sounds of weapons being cocked and the crisp clicks of equipment latches filled the military tent.
The equipment of this five-man squad is enough to make any regular army envious.
Each person was wearing a GPNVG-18 "panoramic wide field of view" quad-eye night vision device worth tens of thousands of dollars;
The tactical vest he wore was not only lightweight, but also had level 6 ballistic plates that could withstand full-power rifle rounds.
Their weapons were all modified AK-12s equipped with red dot and high-magnification tandem sights, tactical flashlights, and laser pointers.
"Set off."
4:40 a.m.
The five-person team left the camp and entered the wilderness.
They moved at an extremely fast pace while maintaining tactical formation.
Eugene led the way, Artyom flanked the enemy, Yuri and Ruslan were in the center, and Roman brought up the rear.
"Watch your step! There's a tripwire mine at the ten o'clock position," Eugene said into the communicator.
"Roger that! Go over there!" Yuri gave the order.
"Boss, the artillery fire is really intense in the distance." Eugene looked at the tactical terminal. "Ukrainian reinforcements have arrived. If he's still inside, he won't survive."
"Remain silent. Speed up," Yuri commanded.
The team advanced seven kilometers and arrived at the edge of an abandoned farmland.
Eugene, who was scouting ahead, raised his right fist, signaling to stop.
Everyone knelt down, guns pointed at their respective sectors.
"Something's up." Eugene lowered his voice. "Two o'clock, four hundred meters. A faint heat source has been detected, moving very slowly."
