Chapter 2 Begins the Discipline
Chapter 2 Begins the Discipline
The State of Chu revered yellow, and Xiang Yu continued to use yellow after restoring his kingdom. Five or six hundred elite cavalrymen galloped swiftly, like a yellow tide, surging and powerful, with an overwhelming and oppressive aura.
The Chu soldiers were clad in iron armor, with iron swords at their left waists, short iron swords tucked into their left breasts, and quivers filled with arrows hanging from their right waists. Two stiff bows were carried crossed on their backs. A long halberd, its blade gleaming coldly, rested on a weapon hook on their horses' backs.
They're really armed to the teeth.
The warhorses beneath them were tall and magnificent, all of the finest quality. The Chu soldiers were skilled horsemen, riding steadily and firmly on their backs, controlling the reins as they galloped with lightning speed.
Fifteen Chu soldiers charged at the forefront, nearly a mile away from the main force. They drew their strong bows from their backs, nocked arrows, aimed at Liu Bang, and shouted, "Liu Bang, you treacherous dog, surrender at once!"
Liu Bang's capture of Pengcheng thoroughly enraged Xiang Yu, who felt he had to capture Liu Bang alive and hand him over to Xiang Yu. Therefore, the Chu army did not fire any arrows.
Liu Bang was not one to surrender easily. He mocked Xiang Yu as a brainless brute, and his army was no exception. Liu Bang immediately drew his bow, aimed at the Chu soldier charging at the forefront, and pulled back with his right hand, drawing the bow to its full extent.
Liu Ying opened her eyes wide and looked at it, her little face full of anticipation: "Emperor Gaozu of Han, Liu Bang, was an emperor who rose on horseback, so his archery skills must have been extraordinary, right?"
Liu Bang released the bowstring with his right hand, and the arrow flew like lightning, straight towards the Chu army, striking him squarely in the chest. The arrowhead struck the iron armor, scattering sparks, then slid off course, flying a short distance before falling to the ground exhausted.
"A quack!" Liu Ying said, somewhat disappointed.
Liu Bang's archery skills were not bad, but he had problems with the details. It was obvious at a glance that he was an amateur and had not received professional training.
Liu Ying emerged from in front of Xiahou Ying, his short legs carrying him to Liu Bang's side. He looked up at Liu Bang with his small face and said, "That's not how you shoot arrows."
"You brat, how dare you look down on my archery skills?" Liu Bang glanced at Liu Ying, a mocking smile playing on his lips. He drew an arrow with his right hand, nocked it quickly, drew the bow, and fired at the Chu army at the forefront.
This time, the bullet hit the shoulder, but still couldn't break through the armor's defenses, and slid to the side.
"You should shoot in the face! Or better yet, in the throat!" Liu Ying warned.
"Do I need you to say it?" Liu Bang grinned and laughed.
"If you know that, why don't you shoot me in the face?" Liu Ying retorted sarcastically.
"I..." Liu Bang drew his bow and nocked an arrow, aiming at the face of the Chu soldier. He released the bowstring with his right hand, and the arrow flew faster than lightning, heading straight for the Chu soldier. However, it did not hit his face, but instead struck his right shoulder.
"You need to spread your feet shoulder-width apart and use the strength of your waist and back to draw the bow, not just the strength of your arms," Liu Ying instructed.
"Who do you think you are? Trying to teach me archery? How laughable!" Liu Bang laughed loudly.
You actually doubt my expertise? You're blind!
In his previous life, Liu Ying loved riding and archery. After graduating from university, he rented a piece of grassland and opened a horse ranch, where he taught riding and archery full-time. He was a shrewd businessman, and also capitalized on the internet boom by doing well with his online live streams, making his business consistently successful. The money he earned not only bought him more grassland but also allowed him to own a car, a house, and savings.
From Liu Ying's professional perspective, Liu Bang's archery skills were not formally trained, and he lacked finesse in handling details, which affected his accuracy.
"Aim a little higher, a little higher. You'll shoot into his left chest like that." Liu Ying stretched out his right hand to correct Liu Bang's posture, but he was too short, only reaching Liu Bang's waist, and couldn't reach him.
"Get out of my way and don't bother me," Liu Bang shouted.
Liu Ying drew an arrow from the quiver with his right hand, stared at it with wide eyes, and was quite surprised.
The arrowhead has three sides, each of which is not straight but curved, like a bullet.
"You've mastered aerodynamics?" Liu Ying's face was full of surprise.
It sounds far-fetched, but it's true that they mastered aerodynamics 2,200 years ago. The arrowheads unearthed from the Terracotta Army are not flat on three sides, but are bullet-shaped, because the Qin Dynasty had already mastered aerodynamics.
Only arrows like this can shoot farther and more accurately.
The arrowhead also had three barbs, so if it got stuck in the flesh, it wouldn't be easy to remove; it could easily tear off a large chunk of flesh. If it hit a vital organ, given the medical technology of the time, it would almost certainly be a death sentence.
"It's toxic enough! But it's very suitable for the needs of war!" Liu Ying agreed wholeheartedly.
Just as Liu Ying was examining the arrowhead, Liu Bang drew his bow and released an arrow, striking the Chu soldier squarely in the left chest.
"I already told you, you'd hit my left breast, but you wouldn't listen." Liu Ying was speechless.
Liu Bang was taken aback, looking at Liu Ying with some surprise, and grinned: "You're so young, how could you know anything about archery? You must be talking nonsense."
"You will be shot in the right ribs," Liu Ying predicted, glancing at Liu Bang's posture.
"I'm sure I can hit him in the face," Liu Bang said proudly.
An arrow was shot and struck the right flank of the Chu soldier, but was deflected by the armor.
"Listen to me." Liu Ying held an arrow in his right hand, poking Liu Bang with it and instructing him: "Raise your left hand higher, press your right arm down a bit. Like that, aim for the throat, release the arrow!"
Liu Bang was stunned for a moment, then followed Liu Ying's instructions to assume the correct posture, but did not loosen the string.
"Ouch..." Liu Ying gripped the arrow in his right hand and stabbed Liu Bang hard in the buttocks. Liu Bang let out a miserable scream, as if someone had violated his old chrysanthemum, and it was no longer a human voice.
Liu Bang loosened his grip, the arrow shot out, he turned and glared at Liu Ying, then kicked him hard with his left foot: "You unfilial son, I'll beat you to death!"
Liu Ying dodged to the side, saying, "Look at that! How accurate it was, hitting right in the throat."
"Impossible! Absolutely impossible!" Liu Bang would never believe it.
"Ah..." A scream rang out, as pitiful as a pig being slaughtered.
Liu Bang turned his head and saw a Chu soldier with an arrow in his throat, who had fallen off his horse and was convulsing as if he had malaria.
"This..." Liu Bang was extremely surprised, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets.
"Did it really hit?" Xiahou Ying heard the scream, turned his head to look, and his face was full of disbelief.
"Of course! Who told me to give you the pointers?" Liu Ying said proudly.
"Don't try to take credit; I'm the one who hit it." Liu Bang was beaming with joy. "With my archery skills, I can shoot wherever I want."
"Then why did you miss with your arrow just now?" Liu Ying mocked.
"I spared their lives out of kindness, but they were ungrateful, so I had no choice but to send them on their way." Liu Bang said without batting an eye, his skin thicker than the Great Wall, impervious to bullets.
Liu Bang drew another arrow, and without waiting for Liu Ying's instructions, he excitedly nocked it: "I will still shoot him in the throat."
"You will be shot in the chest." Liu Ying knew at a glance that Liu Bang could not possibly shoot in the throat.
Liu Bang, refusing to believe the superstition, drew his bow and released an arrow, which, just as Liu Ying had predicted, struck him in the chest.
"How about that?" Liu Ying grinned. "Those who don't listen to the elders will suffer the consequences."
"I..." Liu Bang was speechless.
"King of Han, just listen to him," Xiahou Ying said, glancing sideways at Liu Bang. "There are several hundred Chu soldiers; this is not the time to be angry."
Feeling humiliated by being instructed by the young boy Liu Ying, Liu Bang was reluctant to listen. Seeing the hundreds of Chu soldiers charging towards him, he decided that saving face was no longer an issue and asked Liu Ying, "How should we shoot?"
Liu Ying, holding an arrow, poked Liu Bang and pointed, "A little more to the left, raise your right arm a little... Yes, just like that. Shoot!"
Liu Bang followed Liu Ying's instructions meticulously and fired his arrow upon hearing the sound.
The arrow was faster than lightning, heading straight for the Chu army and striking them squarely in the throat.
"Great job!" Xiahou Ying exclaimed, cheering as he watched.
"My archery skills are extraordinary!" Liu Bang boasted, drawing an arrow, nocking it on the string, and looking at Liu Ying, urging, "Hurry up."
Liu Ying really wanted to give Liu Bang a piece of his mind, but now was not the time, so he quickly gave Liu Bang some pointers.
Liu Bang followed Liu Ying's instructions completely, drew his bow and released an arrow, which struck Liu Bang in the throat.
"Again!" Liu Bang exclaimed with delight, looking at Liu Ying.
Under Liu Ying's guidance, Liu Bang drew his bow and released his arrow. The father and son worked together seamlessly, and their arrows never missed. Every arrow shot took the life of a Chu soldier.
"Kill him!" The Chu army, seeing this, were filled with hatred and no longer held back. They drew their bows and fired arrows in retaliation.
Liu Bang quickly hid behind the carriage. Arrows shot at him, hitting the carriage with a series of thuds.
"Quick, shoot!" Liu Ying instructed while dodging.
Following Liu Ying's instructions, Liu Bang quickly got up and fired an arrow, which struck Liu Bang in the throat.
Under Liu Ying's guidance, Liu Bang displayed his extraordinary prowess, killing with every arrow, and quickly shot down the fifteen Chu soldiers at the forefront.
