Chapter 25 Gunfight Erupts Instantly
Chapter 25 Gunfight Erupts Instantly
Outside Fort Worth, the boundless grasslands steam under the scorching sun.
Tom and five or six men from Clayton's gang reined in their horses and stood quietly, waiting for the Sun Gang's figures to emerge from the horizon.
Tom's hawk-like eyes spotted the group from afar; they had weapons at their waists and were riding tall steeds, slowly approaching.
In the crowd, a familiar figure caught his eye, and Tom's lips curled up silently.
"Hey! That's him! That bastard!" As the distance drew closer, the guy from the Sun Gang who had narrowly escaped finally saw the face that had haunted his nightmares every night.
How was the Night Raid Squad wiped out?
This is the person right in front of you!
He took down most of his brothers like harvesting wheat!
The last two were even killed by him personally... right under his nose!
Wait... how did he get here?
How did he get involved with the Drayton gang?
He pointed at me? What was he reaching into his pocket for?
Those Drayton gang guys... they were all pulling out guns!!!
Tom's finger was pointed at him like a cold gun barrel, and his hand had already reached into his coat. In that instant, the terrifying scene of that night, where every shot hit its mark and every bullet was deadly, gripped the fugitive's heart once again!
"Boss! It's him! The bastard who killed our brothers!" The fleeing bandit was terrified, letting out a distorted, heart-wrenching scream!
The howl pierced Lucas's ears like a knife.
He was already feeling uneasy: how did that immigrant group, which should have been easy prey, suddenly become such a tough nut to crack?
This caused the Sun Gang to suffer heavy losses!
The information came from the Clayton Gang, and now they're hanging out with those immigrants again... Damn, are they planning to swallow up the Sun Gang?
The business of robbing immigrants on the grasslands is too tempting!
The thought hadn't even finished forming in his head.
boom! ! !
The revolver in the fugitive's hand exploded first!
Lucas's heart sank, thinking that someone on the other side was about to fall from their horse.
But then!
A muffled "thud!"
Lucas watched helplessly as his man, who had just escaped, suddenly exploded in a cloud of blood on his chest, and fell straight off his horse like a tattered sack!
"F**k!!" Lucas's pupils constricted, his soul nearly leaving his body, and he roared almost instinctively, "Get them!!"
boom!boom!boom!boom!
The desolate grassland was instantly torn apart by deafening gunfire! The two groups of people were like powder kegs that had been lit, bullets whistling as they rained down on each other!
The leader of the Clayton gang fell off his horse, blood and foam coming out of his mouth.
In his murky, staring eyes, the last trace of dizziness and disorientation remained.
Just now, how did that skinny kid who sells information and looks like he could be blown away by the wind suddenly pull a shiny Colt out of his arms?
What's even stranger is that this kid just raised his hand and blew up the Sun Gang kid on the other side!
With that one shot, a spark flew directly into the powder keg!
boom! boom! boom!
The two groups of bloodthirsty thugs didn't utter a single word before their weapons spewed flames!
The empty grassland was instantly filled with gunfire and smoke, bullets whistling through the air.
Lucas, the leader of the Sun Gang, was firing his revolver until the barrel was hot to the touch.
As the gunfire continued, his heart sank. Something was wrong! Why were the gunshots around him becoming so faint?
He glanced to the side briefly, and his scalp tingled instantly!
The brothers who were just charging alongside him were now lying scattered on the ground like wheat cut down by a sickle!
Looking back again...
It's empty!
On the vast grassland, besides his own restless horse pawing at the ground, there was only that strange, skinny boy opposite him, and... Clayton's gang leader who had just breathed his last!
Lucas's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets!
The young man stood beside Clayton's corpse, slowly raising the still-smoking muzzle of his gun, pointing it at Clayton's lifeless head, his face expressionless...
boom!
Another shot!
Red and white substances were splattered all over the ground. The boy even leaned down, brought his lips close to Clayton's bloodied ear, and whispered something in a voice only the dead could hear.
A chill ran from the soles of Lucas's feet straight up to the top of his head!
run!
The thought struck my mind like lightning! Not run? Were I just going to become a sitting duck for this scourge?
Lucas jerked the reins, and the spurs on his boots slammed into the horse's belly!
Hee hee hee—!
The horse beneath him, in pain, neighed, reared up, almost spinning in place, and galloped wildly towards the southeast of Fort Worth!
The dust kicked up by the horse's hooves instantly swallowed his figure.
Beside Clayton's headless corpse, Tom Dutton straightened up and blew away the wisps of smoke rising from the muzzle of his gun.
The wind carried his cold whisper into Clayton's increasingly stiff ears:
"Remember this, you bastard. I'm not some informant... I'm the immigrant you're trying to rob. Tom Dutton, that's my name. Mention me when you get down there, and maybe it'll save you some trouble."
Until the very last moment, Clayton's wide, almost bursting eyes were still fixed on the direction where Tom had disappeared.
That's not the kid selling information...
Those are demons who came to take their lives!
Seeing Lucas fleeing in such a panicked direction, Tom's lips curled into a cold smile. He suddenly pursed his lips, let out a whistle, and roared like thunder:
"loach--!"
Before the whistle had even finished, a bluish-gray shadow appeared in the distance, like the wind blowing across the grass, its hooves flying, and it rushed up to us in the blink of an eye!
Tom didn't even touch the stirrups. He pressed down on the mule's back with one hand, spun around in the air, and landed steadily on the saddle. His movements were as swift as if he had practiced them a thousand times.
"Keep up with that bastard!"
"Ah ...
Ahead, Lucas was urging his mount to gallop at breakneck speed when he suddenly heard that mule's braying that pierced the wilderness behind him, startling him so much that his heart skipped a beat! A chilling cold, like a venomous snake, crept up his spine and spread throughout his body!
"Giddy up! Giddy up!! Faster!!" Lucas's eyes were bloodshot, and the spurs on his boots were pounding the horse's belly like madmen!
"Hee-hoo-hoo!!!" The wild horse beneath him cried out in pain, letting out a nearly shrill and miserable neigh. Its hooves almost kicked up sparks as it galloped desperately toward the southeast!
The commotion reached Tom's ears from afar, making his eyes grow even colder!
Tom wasn't in a hurry to catch up; he simply watched the trail of dust fly by from a distance.
As the sun gradually dipped westward from its zenith, half a day passed in a flash amidst the rapid clatter of horses' hooves.
Ahead, the earth seemed to have been cleaved open by a giant axe, with a jagged chasm stretching across the scorched yellow horizon.
Clefthoof Valley!
Lucas's figure plunged headfirst into the jagged shadows.
Tom pulled hard on the reins, and the loach reared up on its forelegs and came to a steady stop.
Tom then drew his heavy Winchester lever rifle from the leather sheath beside the saddle with a "whoosh".
The brass bolt flashed a cold light in the afterglow of the setting sun.
With a click, he chambered the bullet, his sharp eyes, like those of a hawk, scanning the entrance to the canyon ahead, which resembled the fangs of a giant beast.
"Hidden well." Tom patted the loach's sturdy neck and rolled off the ground.
The almost sentient loach snorted, shook its head, and silently retreated behind a weathered boulder, instantly blending into the shadows of the barren rocks.
Taking a deep breath of the dusty, gunpowder-smelling air, Tom bent down, sidestepped, and like a ghost, silently slipped into the bottomless shadows of Clefthoof Valley.
